Through Mark DeGarmo Dance’s 5-7 week mini-residencies, we show teachers how to infuse the dance arts into the PreK-5 classroom curricula. Content can be adapted by the classroom teacher and our teaching artists to meet each classroom’s learning needs. Mini-residency themes include:

Dance Around the World: Students develop empathy for diverse cultures by learning the dance skills and rhythms of cultural dances from around the world.

Move History: Students embody social studies by experiencing and dramatizing historical events and themes, such as, choreographing an Underground Railroad dance.

Move Literature: From Page to Stage: Students create an original dance from folktales, fables, fairy tales or poetry using imagery, characterization, plot and descriptive language.

Move Connect: Bridges, Architecture & Dance: Students learn architectural principles via bridge designs and social studies curricula surrounding New York City and urban communities.

Moving Together: You, Me, We!: Students use cooperative learning in dance arts to enhance listening, cooperation, leadership, and creative problem-solving skills.
